Jordan Cronenweth

Jordan Scott Cronenweth ( born February 20, 1935 in Los Angeles, † November 29, 1996 ) was an American cinematographer.

Life

Cronenweth had studied engineering at City College in Los Angeles and started as an errand boy in the laboratory by Columbia Pictures. He then went for a short time as a cameraman to Oklahoma, but returned still in the 60s to Los Angeles, where he is towards the end of the decade, initially as a simple cinematographer on such films as The hell we (1968 ) or second-unit cameraman (with embers of violence, 1969) worked. In 1969, he was responsible for television as a director of photography ( Trilogy ).

In 1970 he moved to Robert Altman's staging Also birds can also kill the movie for director of photography on. In this decade Cronenweth shot a series of partly high-quality films, including Billy Wilder's screwball Grotesque Special Edition Jan Troell's visually stunning bride and Romance Zandys In 1979 Ken Russell's psychedelic thriller The trip to hell.

When his most important work, the camera applies in Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982). He was 1983 awards include a BAFTA Award for this film.

He was married was for the film Peggy Sue in 1987 for the Academy Award nominated " Best Cinematography ". He also participated in the music films Rattle and Hum with the band U2 and Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads and led the camera while Madonna video Oh, Father.

At first he was a cameraman for the movie Alien 3, but was released after only 10 days due to slow work. He was suffering at that time already suffering from Parkinson 's disease, where he died in 1996. His son Jeff Cronenweth also works as a cameraman ( Fight Club ).

In a survey conducted by the International Cinematographers Guild his colleagues elected him in 2003 in the list of eleven artistically influential cinematographers in film history.
