Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts

The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts is a museum of contemporary art in Amman in Jordan.

History

The museum was founded in 1980 by the Royal Society of Fine Arts. The official inauguration took place under the patronage of the then King Hussein I and Queen Nūr al - Hussain.

The museum's permanent collection includes over 2,000 works, including paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, installations, weavings and ceramics by more than 800 artists from 59 countries, mainly from Asia, Europe and Africa.

The museum was expanded under the Jordanian architect Mohamed al - Asad (* 1961) and renovated. He was awarded the 2007 Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
