Jordan Rudess

Jordan Rudess (* November 4, 1956 in New York City ) is an American keyboardist, piano virtuoso and member of the progressive metal band Dream Theater.

Biography

After the talent was discovered by Jordan Rudess an early age, he went with nine years at the renowned Juilliard Conservatory, where he was initially taught classical piano. At age 19, he began to be interested in synthesizers and use them in his compositions and decided against the advice of his mentor for a career as a keyboard player instead of as a classical pianist.

After Rudess in 1994 released his first solo album lists, and was voted by the readers of Keyboard Magazine's most gifted new talent, he got from the band Dream Theater and The Dixie Dregs. However, he decided to first make playing with the Dixie Dregs since this temporary commitment would affect his family life at its lowest.

In the meantime, he devoted himself to several solo projects, so the Rudess / Morgenstein Project, in which he played along with the drummer of the Dixie Dregs, Rod Morgenstein and an eponymous CD recorded. The origin of this project was a failed Tour appearance at the Dixie Dregs of the power went out. Only Jordan Rudess, the keyboard was connected to a UPS, and Rod Morgenstein could still play, so the two decided to jam together until the power was back. The result was so convincing that the two decided to repeat the thing.

Also, along with some members of Dream Theater Rudess was involved in a side project called Liquid Tension Experiment, the two CDs spawned (Liquid Tension Experiment and Liquid Tension Experiment 2). The members were beside themselves Rudess John Petrucci (guitar, Dream Theater ), Mike Portnoy (drums, Dream Theater ) and Tony Levin (bass, including King Crimson, Peter Gabriel ). On this occasion, Jordan Rudess could be persuaded to become a permanent member of Dream Theater. It replaced the former keyboardist Derek Sherinian and took Metropolis pt II: Scenes From A Memory, his first album with Dream Theater on. Since then he's on the studio albums, Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence (2002 ) Train of Thought (2003 ) Octavarium (2005 ) Systematic Chaos (2007), Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009 ), A Dramatic Turn of Events ( 2011) and Dream Theater (2013 ) to hear as well. Together with John Petrucci, he appeared at the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center. From this appearance a recording entitled " An Evening with John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess " has been released on CD.

In the summer and fall of 2006, he worked, among others, a revival of the Rudess / Morgenstein -Projects (planned is a new album, plus there is now always live performances ) and on the new album by Dream Theater.

Jordan used in his compositions as in the albums Feeding the Wheel of Time and Rhythm mostly - in addition to the classical parts in Aeolian minor - the minor blues scale and the minor pentatonic scale, and sometimes times the chromatic scale. For example, he combined in Crack the meter ( first track of the album Feeding the Wheel) the minor blues scale on e with Aeolian minor to b ( b = german German. H), or the prygische or phrygian dominant scale on e with the minor blues scale on b ( Rhythm of time - time crunch ) which is typical of his compositions.
