Jordi de Sant Jordi

Jordi de Sant Jordi ( dʒɔɾði dE saɲ dʒɔɾði ) (* at the end of 1398, † 1424 ) was born in the Kingdom of Valencia. He was chamberlain in the court of King Alfonso V of Aragon (Alfons III. In Valencia ), but he is known for his poetry.

Sant Jordi was a contemporary of Ausiàs March. He was also one of the first major writers of the golden age of Catalan literature from the 15th century. He was of the Dowager Queen Margaret of Prades (she was the widow of King Martin I of Aragon ) protected.

When he took part in the expedition by the King Alfonso V of Aragon to the Kingdom of Naples, Sant Jordi was captured by the army of Francesco Sforza on 30 May to 1423. During his imprisonment he wrote his famous poem ' prisoners '.

He had died by 1424. One can say that Joan Rois de Corella is influenced by him. The work of Iñigo López de Mendoza, the crowning of Mr Jordi is dedicated to him.
