Jorge Daniel Guagua Tamayo ( born September 28, 1981 in Esmeraldas ) is an Ecuadorian footballer. Guagua is considered to be attentive, intelligent play central defender with safe passing game, which can also be used as a defensive midfielder.

Guaguas first club was the Asociación Deportiva Naval unterklassige in Guayaquil, from which he initially on loan, then definitely in 1999 moved to the capital club CD El Nacional, for which he gave his Erstligadebüt in the 2000 season. Guagua was active for various youth teams in his country. At the Junior World Championship 2001 he made in the first round of a stir when he their playmaker Rafael van der Vaart did not allow to unfold in a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands as a defensive midfielder. On June 2, 2001 Guagua debuted in the Ecuadorian national team in the World Cup qualifier against Peru in Lima, which Ecuador won 2-1. He was not nominated for the 2002 World Cup because he was still considered too inexperienced for a major tournament. In the 2005 season he was appointed as captain of El Nacional and his team national champion of the Clausura tournament. With El Nacional he took repeated part in the Copa Libertadores. After the 2006 World Cup, he moved to Colón CA to Santa Fe in the Argentine Primera División. From here he returned to the second round of the 2007 season in August back to Ecuador to CS Emelec. In 2008 he moved to the city rivals Barcelona SC Guayaquil; In 2009, he returned to El Nacional back to Quito.

Guagua has played 24 international matches in which he scored a goal (as of 31 March 2007). He stood in the squad of Ecuador for the football World Cup in 2006 and was used in the three group matches. He also took part in the Olympic Team of Ecuador in the South American qualifying tournament for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games, in which Ecuador in its group in second behind the eventual Olympic champion Argentina failed to qualify.
