Jorge Lorenzo

Jorge Lorenzo Guerrero ( born May 4, 1987 in Palma de Mallorca ) is a Spanish motorcycle racer.

He is 1,70 m tall and weighs 55 kg, his preferred starting number was for many years the 48th Lorenzo won the 2006 and 2007 Aprilia the world title in the 250 cc class of the Motorcycle World Championships and 2010 and 2012 World Cup title in MotoGP at Yamaha.

Since the 2008 season he will start in the MotoGP class for the Yamaha factory team.

Career

Early years

Jorge Lorenzo took in 1990 at the age of just four years on his first mini- cross racing part. In 1992 he also began to ride minibikes from 1993 to 1995, he participated in the Mini Cross Championship of the Balearic Islands and won in all three years the title.

At age ten, 1997, he moved from Minicross to road racing in the Aprilia 50cc Cup, which he won in 1998 and 1999 in each of the years. In 2000, he contested the age of 13, the Spanish 125cc Championship, which he finished in fourth place overall. The following year he was sixth in the 125 cc championship.

125 cc World Championship

Jorge Lorenzo moved in 2002 to Derbi in the 125cc class of the World Championship and became the youngest driver in the history of the World Cup. As the age limit is in this class at 15, he was not allowed to participate in the first two races of the season. On the weekend of the third run, the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, he was on Saturday 15 years old, so he could not participate in practice on Friday, he completed the race then at the age of 15 years and one day. At the end of the season, he finished 21st overall.

In the 2003 season he was in twelfth place overall and was able to celebrate his first Grand Prix victory at the Brazilian Grand Prix in Rio de Janeiro. In 2004, he took three wins and seven podium finishes with 179 points, fourth in the 125 cc World Championship.

250 cc World Championship

For the 2005 season, Jorge Lorenzo joined Fortuna Honda in the 250 cc class. In his first year he won six podium positions in this class and was fifth in the overall standings.

In 2006, his team of Honda switched to Aprilia. His teammate was fellow Hector Barbera, with whom he did not always understand well during the season. Lorenzo won the first race of the season at Jerez his first Grand Prix in the 250 cc class. With eight wins and eleven podiums Lorenzo has 289 points finally 250cc World Champion, 17 points ahead of his closest competitors, the Italian Andrea Dovizioso.

Also started in 2007, Jorge Lorenzo in the Fortuna Aprilia Team on a factory Aprilia in the 250cc World Championship and went as a big favorite for the title in the season. Lorenzo finished this with nine wins and pole positions and a total of twelve podiums from 17 races. With 52 -point lead over second-placed Andrea Dovizioso Lorenzo secured his superior second world title.

MotoGP class

For the 2008 season Lorenzo moved to the factory Yamaha team Fiat Yamaha and is there new team-mate Valentino Rossi. However, Lorenzo started with Michelin tires, unlike Rossi, who was driving with Bridgestone tires.

In 2009 Lorenzo came back in the Fiat Yamaha team, but with a new management and with the number 99 on the basis of the new single tire rule, he now went with Bridgestone tires.

In 2010, Lorenzo won his first world title in the MotoGP class. 2011 Lorenzo missed his title defense. He was charged with three wins and 260 points runner-up behind Casey Stoner. 2012 Lorenzo recorded six wins for himself, bringing with 350 points in the final standings his second world title in the MotoGP class.

In the motorcycle world championship in 2013 Lorenzo takes for the team Japan Yamaha Factory Racing. He piloted a Yamaha YZR- M1. His teammate Valentino Rossi. After the opening win in Qatar Lorenzo drove two more victories. In the free practice for the Dutch TT Lorenzo lost on a wet track control of his Yamaha and crashed. He retired to a broken collarbone on the left arm. Previously, he had driven the fastest time yet in the dry first training. He was then operated on in the General Hospital de Catalunya in Barcelona. Nevertheless, Lorenzo started at the Dutch TT and finished fifth. In Trainingswhip to the next Grand Prix of Germany at Sachsenring, Lorenzo crashed again, with the twisted titanium plate inserted in his left shoulder. After check in the Medical Centre he was not permitted to participate for the race on Sunday; instead, Lorenzo underwent a further follow-up operation. At the Grand Prix of Indianapolis Lorenzo was third behind Pedrosa.
