Jorge Paulo Lemann

Jorge Paulo Lemann ( born August 26, 1939 in Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian- Swiss manager and banker.

Life

Lemanns parents are from Switzerland, his father Paul Lemann was a merchant from a cheese merchant dynasty in Langnau im Emmental, emigrated in the 1930s to Bahia from there, worked in banking, and came with cocoa growing prosperity. Jorge Paulo Lemann wanted to be a professional tennis player at first, was five times Brazilian champion, played in Wimbledon and met once for Brazil and Switzerland in the Davis Cup against Guillermo Vilas at, but without success. However, he decided around and studied economics at Harvard University. After that, he was 1961/1962 worked for the Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse. In 1971 he founded with three other managers, the former Banco Garantia, which he, after she had run into financial difficulties, sold to Credit Suisse in 1998. Later he acquired out of the proceeds with other business partners a controlling interest in Brazilian brewer AmBev, which merged to InBev in 2004. In 2010 he bought together with his Brazilian business partners Marcel Herrmann Telles and Carlos Alberto Sicupira on its U.S. investment firm 3G Capital, a controlling interest in the U.S. company Burger King. In February 2013, he acquired over 3G Capital jointly with the investor Warren Buffett, the U.S. company HJ Heinz Company. In connection with the acquisition, there was suspicion of insider dealing.

From his 2002 divorced five children come. Lemann has lived since 1999, after an assassination attempt on his children and his family on Lake Zurich, commuting and business but also between São Paulo and St. Louis. In November 2012, he was ranked as the richest Brazilians and as the second richest Swiss citizens by Forbes Magazine.
