Jorwert

Jorwert (Dutch: Jorwerd ) is a small village with 310 inhabitants in the Frisian municipality Littenseradiel.

Location

The Route 359 is 3 km to the north and to the National Road 384 west about 4 km. After Mantgum in the south and the east Weidum are both within 2 km. To the city of Leeuwarden is about 9 km to the northeast.

Attractions

The former Catholic and Protestant church after the Reformation of Jorwert in Sluytermanwei 4 is dedicated to the former Bishop St. Radbod. The medieval church dates from the early 12th century and is built in the Romanesque style with a round closed choir and a tower from the end of the 12th century. It consists mainly of tuff. The pulpit dates from the 17th century, the organ is from 1799. One of the bells was 1394, cast the other in 1749. Is a sundial on the south wall. 1951 broke the tower. In 1954 the church was rebuilt and the tower was renewed again in 2006.
