Jos Stelling
Jos Stelling (* July 16, 1945 in Utrecht) is a Dutch film director, screenwriter and producer.
Life
The self-taught Stelling is considered a master of the wordless film: the characters in his stories are observed in detail and express themselves more through facial expressions than by words.
In 1981 he founded the Netherlands Film Festival ( Nederlandse Filmdagen ) as a festival for Dutch directors. Stelling is the owner of two cinemas in Utrecht.
Prizes and awards
In 1975 he was nominated at the Cannes Film Festival for his film Mariken van Nieumeghen. At the International Film Festival in Moscow in 1981 The Pretenders won the golden prize. In 1995 the film The Flying Dutchman was nominated at the Venice Film Festival.
