Jos van Immerseel

Jos van Immerseel ( born November 9, 1945 in Antwerp) is a Belgian harpsichordist, pianist and conductor.

Life

Jos van Immerseel studied at the Conservatory of Antwerp organ, piano and harpsichord with Flor Peeters, Eugène Traey and Kenneth Gilbert. He founded there the Collegium Musicum, developed a strong commitment to Renaissance and Baroque music and advanced consistently his classical and romantic repertoire.

From 1972 he taught at the conservatory of Antwerp and basso continuo harpsichord. Since 1982 he conducts master classes at the Academy of the local Vleeshuis Museum, which has an extensive collection of historical keyboard instruments. He also led master classes at many international festivals. He taught at the Conservatoire de Paris and also at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he was in 1981 appointed artistic director.

The winner of many international competitions and multiple award winners is famous especially for his improvisational skills. He also plays on the concert tours on their own instruments.

In 1987 he founded the playing on period instruments ensemble Anima Eterna, which specializes in music of the late 18th and 19th century. As a conductor, member of chamber music ensembles and as a soloist he has played a lot of recordings.

Together with his current concertmaster Midori Seiler he submitted a recording of Mozart 's sonatas for violin and piano at the fortepiano, which was awarded in Paris in 2003 with the Diapason de l' année. 2010 Got van Immerseel the Bremen Music Festival Prize.
