Josamycin is an antibiotic of the macrolide group. It is made from strains of Streptomyces narbonensis josamyceticus var var nova won or alternatively produced synthetically.
Pharmacology
Josamycin is effective against gram-positive bacteria such as staphylococci and streptococci and against mycoplasma, chlamydia and many anaerobic bacteria. Against a range of Gram-negative, such as Legionella, Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, and josamycin is effective. It is thus similar to the activity profile of the structurally related erythromycin.
