Josaphat Kotsylovsky

Jehoshaphat Kocylovskyj OSBM (Polish: Jozafat Kocyłowski, Ukrainian: Йосафат Йосиф Коциловський, born March 3, 1876 in Pakoszówka, now Poland, † November 17, 1947 in Chapaivka, Soviet Union, now Ukraine) was a Basilian priest, bishop, and is a martyr the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and Blessed of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Jehoshaphat Kocylovskyj was born in the village of Pakoszówka in today's Poland. He came from the tribe of the Lemko Rusyn and felt ethnic Ukrainians belong.

The study of theology in Rome and graduated Kocylovskyj finished this ibid in 1907. On October 9, 1907 he was ordained a priest in 31 years. Man appointed as Vice Rector of Jehoshaphat Kocylovskyj Greek Catholic seminary in Ivano -Frankivsk. He taught as a professor in theology ibid.

On October 2, 1911 Kocylovskyj religious relative has the Basilian St. Jehoshaphat. In 1917 Josaphat Kocylovskyj was appointed bishop of today's Ukrainian Greek Catholic archeparchy Przemysl -Warsaw. The church ceremony was led by Major Archbishop Andrei Scheptyzkyj on 23 October 1917 while Kocylovskyj was consecrated bishop donated and it was followed by the enthronement.

The leading Polish communist authorities did Jehoshaphat Kocylovskyj arrested on 26 June 1946 and handed him over to the Soviet Union. This Kocylovskyj spent in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, initially to jail to Kiev. Thereafter, in the gulag of Chapaivka. There died Bishop Josaphat Kocylovskyj on November 17, 1947 at the age of 71 years.
