José and Pilar

José e Pilar is a documentary directed by Miguel Gonçalves Mendes, the Portuguese from the year 2010. The film was made as a Portuguese- Brazilian- Spanish co-production, came in November 2010 in the cinemas. He follows two years, the life of the writer José Saramago and his wife Pilar del Río.

The musical theme of the film Já não estar is interpreted by the Fadosänger Camané. The soundtrack, on which, inter alia, the singer Adriana Calcanhotto participates, is in the category " Best Music " nominated by the Brazilian Film Academy.

Reception

After its premiere in Portugal on 18 November 2010 saw the next four months 22,000 moviegoers the film. Thus, José e Pilar is already the beginning of 2012 the most-watched documentary by Portuguese Fado of Carlos Saura. In Brazil, the film took place within five months about 40,000 visitors.

On the initiative of the Portuguese-speaking Blogs split screens, the Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual (ICA ) nominated in September 2011, the movie as a Portuguese candidates for the Academy Awards in 2012 for Best Foreign Language Film.
