José Barroso Chávez

José Barroso Chavez ( born June 3, 1925 in Mexico City; † February 5, 2008 ) was a Mexican businessman who acted as a senior functionary of various social institutions and cultural and non-profit organizations in Mexico.

He also served as president of the Mexican Association of the Order of Malta ( Asociación Mexicana de la Soberana y Militar Orden de Malta), 1964-1970 president and later honorary president of the Mexican Red Cross ( Cruz Roja Mexicana ), Member of the Mexican Board of the UN children 's charity UNICEF and Member and 1961-1965 President of the Spanish cultural Institute in Mexico ( Instituto Cultural Mexicano Hispano ). From 1965 to 1977 he headed in succession by the Canadian John Alexander MacAulay as the first Chairman of a Latin American country, the League of Red Cross Societies, the current International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. In this office he was followed by Joseph Adetunji Adefarasin from Nigeria.

José Barroso Chavez was married in 1951 and father of four children.
