José Calvário

José Calvário ( * 1951 in Porto, † 17 June, 2009 Oeiras ) was a Portuguese musician, composer and conductor.

Life

José Calvário had piano lessons as a child and attended the Conservatory of Music from 1957 in Porto. At the age of ten years he was with the Symphony Orchestra of Porto under the direction of conductor Silva Pereira his first public concert. After three years of study in Switzerland in 1971, he finished second in the Festival da Canção Portuguese with the song Flor sem tempo (composition) sung by Paulo de Carvalho; 1972 finished his song, sung by Carlos Mendes, Place 1

He participated in several Euro Vision Song Contest:

  • Euro Vision Song Contest 1972: A festa da vida (composition)
  • Euro Vision Song Contest 1974: E depois do adeus (composition, conducting )
  • Euro Vision Song Contest 1977: Portugal no coração (conductor )
  • Euro Vision Song Contest 1988: Voltarei ( composition, lyrics, conducting )

With the Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera in 1996, he took the album on maps. In 2009 he was honored for his work as Canção the festival.

He died on 17 June 2009 to the effects of a stroke suffered in 2008 and leaves a wife and two children.
