José Clemente Maurer

Josef Clemens Cardinal Maurer C.Ss.R. ( born March 13, 1900 in Nailsworth, Saar, † June 27, 1990 in Sucre, Bolivia) was Archbishop of Sucre.

Life

Josef Clemens Maurer was the youngest child of the miner Peter Maurer (1855-1923) and his second wife, Angela, nee Clemens. In poor families born, it was the early desire of pious parents, that the youngest member of the family should become a priest.

The family had contact with the Redemptorist monastery in Lorraine Téterchen; the Father himself where he took part in a retreat. Josef Clemens ' older brother Peter was recording in 1910 and went to Téterchen Bertigny to Switzerland later. Josef Clemens traveled in 1912, the day after his first communion, also after Bertigny. He remained there until graduation, he entered the religious house in Upper Alsace in Mulhouse soldiers. On June 26, 1967 took him by Pope Paul VI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of the Most Holy Redeemer e Sant'Alfonso in Via Merulana in the College of Cardinals.

In Bolivia, was Mason's concern especially the Indians. All presidents of the country since the early 1950s, asked Cardinal Maurer mediation in crisis situations. Cardinal Maurer founded a settlement factory in Sucre, as the Fundación Cardenal Maurer bears his name, and promoted the social housing of the poor. From 1971 to 1989 263 single-family homes for Indios were built by the factory.

To continue the work of Cardinal Maurer, (the former secretary to Cardinal on his trips to Germany and husband of the great-niece of Cardinal Hildegard Schmidt) was cross in Nailsworth founded on November 3, 1994 at the Holy Monastery of the Cardinal Mason society at the initiative of Arthur Schmidt. The founding board was composed of the former mayor Rudolf Müller, publisher Herbert SA Blaes, the former publisher Heinz Balzert Dechant Willi Heckmann, master baker Klaus Konrad, bank director Rüdiger Sutor and Arthur Schmidt as Chairman. After the sudden death of its founding chairman Arthur Schmidt of Draper Hans -Walter Bremerich was elected as the new Chairman of the Company.
