José de Mesquita

José Barnabé de Mesquita (born 10 March 1892 in Cuiabá, † June 22, 1961 ibid ), commonly known as José de Mesquita, was a Brazilian poet of the Parnassian group, romantics and history writer, historian, journalist, essayist, genealogist and lawyer. He graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of São Paulo in 1913.

Biography

José de Mesquita was a judge at the Court of the State of Mato Grosso and its president for eleven consecutive years ( 1929-1940 ). He was among the founders of the Historical Institute (1919) and the Brazilian Académie des lettres of Mato Grosso in 1921. He is the president of the Academy from its founding until his death in 1961. His book mirror of the soul, stories, was of the Brazilian Academy of lettres published in Rio de Janeiro in 1932. Since 1939 he was a corresponding member of the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute, based in Rio de Janeiro. He was also a corresponding member since 1939 of the Federation of the Academy des lettres Brazil.
