José Eugênio Corrêa

José Corrêa Eugênio (* May 30, 1914 in Lima Duarte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, † January 28, 2010 in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brazil ) was a Roman Catholic bishop of Caratinga in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.

Life

José Corrêa Eugênio studied from 1936 to 1937 philosophy at the seminary of Mariana, Minas Gerais. From 1937 to 1941 he studied Catholic theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and received on 26 October 1941 was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Juiz de Fora. Subsequently, he was from 1942 to 1945 pastor of the Cathedral of Juiz de Fora, also from 1943 to 1945 assistant of Catholic Action. 1946 to 1947 he was Rector of the Minor Seminary of Juiz de Fora, then pastor of Rio Preto.

In 1957 he was called by Pope Pius XII. appointed bishop of Caratinga. The Episcopal ordination on November 10, 1957 He received his Justino José de Sant'Anna, Bishop of Juiz de Fora; Co-consecrators were Othon Motta, Auxiliary Bishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, and Rodolfo das Merces de Oliveira Pena, Bishop of Valença, Rio de Janeiro. His motto is "Omnibus Omnnia ".

He was a Council Father of the first session, October-December 1962 of the Second Vatican Council. From 1964 to 1978 he was Chairman of the Board of the Faculty of Philosophy in Caratinga. 1971 to 1972, he completed a postgraduate studies at the Academia Santo Tomá and the Don Bosco School in São João del Rei.

1978 his age-related resignation was accepted by Pope John Paul II.
