José Mauro de Vasconcelos

José Mauro de Vasconcelos ( born February 26, 1920 in Rio de Janeiro, † July 24, 1984 in São Paulo) was a Brazilian writer of the 20th century.

Life

Vasconcelos ' mother was Indian, his father Portuguese. He studied medicine, law, philosophy, and painting and cutting himself after as a teacher and a nurse at the forest dwellers through. He also was a temporary fishing and banana loader.

Work and style

Vasconcelos, one of - abroad - the most widely read authors in Brazil, it never brought in his home for a comparable fame. Vasconcelos is known for its simple style that leads the reader into a world of tenderness and sensitivity. For the Brazilian way of life so typical it is able to provide even sad, even tragic issues and events with optimism and season with humor without ever next access tone.

His celebrated in Brazil O Meu Pé de -selling novel Laranja Lima (1968, dt under the titles: When I am grown up and in the new edition My little orange tree ) was in 1969 by the Brazilian filmmaker Aurélio Teixeira adapted for the film, but so far never been implemented in the cinema. Very well, but there were already three film versions of the book as a television series, namely 1970 by TV Tupi, 1980 ( remake of the previous film ) of the speech Bandeirantes and finally again in 1998 by the speech Bandeirantes.
