Josef Fendt

Josef Fendt ( born October 6, 1947 in Berchtesgaden ) is a former German luger and since 1994 the president of the International Luge Federation Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course.

The launching for the RC Berchtesgaden Josef Fendt was one of the most successful luger 1970s. He was 1970 and 1974 world champion in the recliner, where he was able to use the home advantage on the ice rink in Koenigssee each. At the Olympic Games 1976 in Innsbruck, he won, after a sixth place in 1972 in Sapporo, behind Dettlef Günther the silver medal. 1971, 1972, 1974 and 1975, he became German champion. In 1973 he was at the European Championships, again in Koenigssee, Second. His sister Andrea Fendt was also in the sport of luge successful.

After the end of his athletic career Fendt began to become involved as an official in the International Luge Federation Fédération Internationale de Luge de Course. In 1985 he was elected competent for the sport on ice rinks Vice President of the Association. After the death of Association President Bert Isatitsch in February 1994 Fendt took over as acting zunänchst whose official duties. On June 25, 1994, he was elected to the 43rd Congress of the FIL in Rome for the President of the Luge Federation, which office he occupies to this day.

On the occasion of his 61st birthday Fendt was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon 2008.
