Josef Hassid

Josef Hassid ( Chasyd ) ( born December 28, 1923 in Suwalki, Poland, † November 7, 1950 in Epsom, England) was a Polish violinist.

Life

Josef Hassid was born on 28 December 1923 in the Polish border town of Suwalki in a poor family of Polish Jews as the third of four children. His mother died in Joseph's tenth year of life of typhoid. He was then brought up by his father. After previous self-study, he became at the age of ten years, students at the Chopin School of Music in Warsaw. In 1935, he was one of the youngest participants of the First International Wieniawski Competition for violinists and was there honored with a special award.

Hassid came in 1938 with his father to London. The outbreak of the Second World War prevented the return to Poland. In the fall of 1940, he was first introduced to the London public. There were a solo recital at the Wigmore Hall and a concert - recital with the Violin Concerto by Tchaikovsky in the Queens Hall. The memory dropouts, the Hassid had here, is regarded as one of the first signs of the disease. Hassid, according to many famous violinist was one of the most gifted talents in the history of violin playing. Due to mental illness disappeared Hassid forever from the concert scene, shortly after he had appeared on the international concert stage. A few years later he died under tragic circumstances. His only legacy consists of nine shots eight short pieces from the years 1939 and 1940, the witness his violin talent as impressive.
