Josef Ignaz Mildorfer

Josef Ignaz Mildorfer ( born October 13, 1719 Innsbruck, † December 8, 1775 in Vienna City Center, now a part of the district in Vienna, Josef Ignaz garbage villages ) was an Austrian painter of the 18th century.

After an initial training in painting by his father Michael Ignaz Mildorfer (1690-1747) was Josef Ignaz Franz Anton Mildorfer next Maulbertsch Johann Wenzel Bergl and one of the most outstanding student of Paul Troger. It dealt mainly with first oil painting and was awarded at the age of 23 years of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts for the image ' Cain slaying his brother Abel ' with a first prize. This led to his recognition as an artist, and only a year later ( 1743) he created the dome fresco of the Sanctuary Hafner (Lower Austria ), one of his most important works.

In 1751 he was appointed court painter to the Duchess of Savoy Emanuela. In the same year his vocation was as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, but a tax offense led in 1756 to his dismissal. After that, his activities shifted predominantly to Moravia and Hungary, where, however, he was no longer in a position to build on its previous achievements. Despite a gracious sake re-employment by the Academy he died in 1775 in abject poverty.
