Josef Kloimstein

Josef Kloimstein ( born 1 November 1929 in Rufling, † November 15, 2012 ) was an Austrian rower who won two medals at three Olympic appearances.

Career

Josef Kloimstein won two medals at the helm European Championships 1956 in Bled. In pairs with coxswain, he finished with Alfred Sageder and helmsman Franz König third place behind the boats from the Federal Republic of Germany and Switzerland. In two coxless Sageder and Kloimstein subject only to the Soviet rowers and Viktor Ivanov Igor Buldakow. At the Olympic Games in 1956 and Sageder Kloimstein started in both boat classes. In two of them left in the semifinals, in two without they reached the final and there occupied the third place behind the Americans James Fifer and Duvall Hecht and Buldakow and Ivanov.

1957 won Kloimstein and Sageder at the European Championships in Duisburg again silver in two without, this time behind the British Christopher Davidge and David Leadley. Two years later, the two Austrians occupied the third place at the European Championships in Mâcon. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 and Kloimstein Sageder occurred also in two without and won silver behind the Soviet boat with Valentin Boreiko and Oleg Golovanov. Four years later Sageder and Kloimstein competed in the Olympics for the third time. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 they started with coxswain Peter Bacher salt in a double with coxswain and occupied the eighth place.

The only 1.80 meters tall Josef Kloimstein launched for the rowing club Danube Linz.

Honors and Awards

In 1996 he received the Silver Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria.
