Josef Lada

Josef Lada ( born December 17, 1887 in Hrusice, † December 14, 1957 in Prague) was a Czech illustrator and children's book author.

Life and work

The artist with a passion 121 illustrated children's books and 197 books for adults and designed covers for 18 children's books and 51 other volumes.

Outside of the Czech and Slovak speaking countries Josef Lada is primarily known by his illustrations to the novel The Adventures of the Good Soldier Svejk. Jaroslav Hašek Lada gave fictional character of Schweik her best known face. Even Josef Lada is known for his stories about the hangover Mikesch and illustrations of numerous children's books and novels.
