Josef Myrow

Josef Myrow ( born February 28, 1910 in Russian Empire, † December 24, 1987 in Los Angeles ) was a Russia -born American film composer. For the music to the movies The loveliest parents in the world (1947 ) and vaudeville Princess (1951 ) he received together with lyricist Mack Gordon an Oscar nomination for "Best Song."

Life

Myrow was born in Russia and then came to the United State. There he studied piano at the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music. After graduating, he appeared as soloist with guest roles in the Sinfonieorchstren of Cleveland and Philadelphia, until he got a job at the local radio of Philadelphia. Then he began to write songs for several nightclubs. Autumn Nocturne, one of his best-known numbers from the 1940's was popularized by Claude Thornhill. About his commitment to the film If I'm Lucky (1946 ), a remake of music at midnight, started his career in the film business. He learned the lyricist Mack Gordon, with whom he began a ten-year partnership. The two wrote songs for numerous movies.

After the end of their partnership Myrow made ​​alone and with changing copywriters on. His partners included, among other things, Kim Gannon, Jean Stone and Bickley Reichner. His biggest hit was Five O'Clock Whistle, the recordings, among other Glenn Miller, Erskine Hawkins and Ella Fitzgerald.

Myrow died in 1987 of complications from Parkinson's disease. His son Fred Myrow was also a film composer.
