Josef Reiter (Judoka)

Josef " Pepi " Rider (born 8 January 1959 in Niederwaldkirchen ) is a former Austrian judoka and three-time participant in the Olympic Games.

The trained farmer from the Upper Austria won at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles in the class up to 65 kg the first Olympic medal in judo for Austria. This rider took a detour through the repechage and sat down at the decisive battle for the bronze medal in the half- light weight against the Italians Sandro Rosati by judges decision through. Already at the games in 1980, he had set out at the Olympics, but different from, as well as later in 1988 early. The Upper Austrian was frequently thrown back by injuries in his career, celebrated alongside his Olympic medal but also winning a silver and three bronze medals at the European Championships and finished at World Championships as the best result in fifth place.

His son Georg Reiter won the 2012 World Cup tournament in Miami.
