Josef Rovenský

Josef Rovenský ( born April 17, 1894 in Prague, † November 5, 1937 ) was a Czech actor, screenwriter and director.

Life

Josef Rovenský grew up in Prague in a wealthy family, as his father there ran a funeral home. After a private acting training with Karel Zelensky he was 1914 first ensemble member of a small touring theater. There followed in 1918 a first stage station at the Municipal Theatre in Pilsen. Then he returned to Prague and played at various small theaters and cabarets (including Red Seven, Rococo, Vlasta Burian Theatre and revolutionaries scene).

In 1914 came Joseph Rovenský with the film business in touch and appeared in a silent movie. From 1918 he was then propagated to see in film productions, and later in some German films in which his compatriot Karel Lamač directed. In 1929, he starred in the lead role of the pharmacist Robert Henning in the GWPabst film diary with a lost. Next to him, played Louise Brooks, Fritz Rasp and Valeska Gert. In the 1930s he turned increasingly to the directing. Among his works to be highlighted included the 1933 film Young Love ( Řeka ) with Jarmila Beránková and Jaroslav Vojta and 1935 Marysa with Jirina Stepnicková and also Jaroslav Vojta. In 1936 he directed the Austrian production Manja Valewska with Maria Andergast, Olga Chekhova and Hans Schott - Schöbinger. About this feature film that the distribution title Petersburg Romance resulted in the postwar period, concludes the review:

" Liebesmelodram from the Russia of the 19th century. . Splendid uniforms, dashing officers, shiny balls [ ... ] Hopelessly outdated precious dime "

During the work in 1937 to the German feature film Pan. The fate of Lieutenant Thomas Glahn, for which he also wrote the screenplay, there were differences with the production company. At the same time fought Josef Rovenský with health problems, so he broke off the shooting and returned to Prague. The film was filmed and completed in the sequence of Olaf Fjord. In addition Rovenský also worked as a screenwriter for more movies.

Josef Rovenský died on 5 November 1937 in Prague at the age of 43 years.
