Josef Wenzl

Josef Wenzl ( born December 20, 1984 in Zwiesel ) is a German cross country skier. He is a sprint specialist who will start barely above the longer distances. Wenzl is an official of the simple customs service in the Federal Customs Administration, where he is a member of the Customs ski team.

His debut in the Cross Country World Cup he gave on 14 December 2004 in the Italian Asiago. In December 2005 he became German champion in the sprint. In the season 2006/ 07 he qualified with two top - ten finishes in the World Cup ( Sixth in Dusseldorf and eighth in the Russian Rybinsk ) for the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo, reaching there in the sprint on the 14th Place. On October 27, 2007, he succeeded in Dusseldorf with his first World Cup victory of the final breakthrough. A shoulder injury caused by a training accident on 27 November 2007 then forced him into a circa two-month break from competition.

After it was assumed that initially the fact that the season was over for him, he was 27 January 2008, only seven weeks after shoulder surgery, the FIS World Cup in Canmore, Canada and already again reached the finals of the freestyle sprints (fifth place in the final standings ). His coach Jochen Behle spoke of a " miracle cure".
