Josefa Idem

Josefa Idem ( born September 23, 1964 in Goch, North Rhine -Westphalia) is a former German and Italian canoeist since 1992 and was from April until June 2013 Minister for Sports, Youth and Equality in Italy.

Life

Sporting career

Idem launched their canoe career with eleven years at the canoe club KV 45 Herringen in Hamm and took fourteen in 1977 for the first time participated in a European Championship. In the final tournament in Plovdiv, she won the gold medal in the 200, 500 and 1000 meters and a bronze medal in the double kayak (K -2) with Ravetta rosette. She took part in several occasions the canoe European and World Championships. In total, she won 22 medals at the World Cup competitions, including five gold medals. She was the first Italian athlete, who won a gold medal at the World Canoeing Championships. At the 2009 World Championships she won the bronze medal in the discipline K1 500m at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, she finished the final in fifth.

Results at Olympic Games

Josefa Idem launched at eight Olympics and is one of the athletes with the most Olympic appearances at all. 1984 and 1988, she represented the Federal Republic of Germany, then she started for Italy.

In the finals of the 2008 Olympics she was beaten by only four thousandths of a second.

Political career

For the Italian parliamentary elections in February 2013, she was elected by the Partito Democratico in Emilia -Romagna on the first list position for the elections to the Senate. After successful election, they heard this Parliament chamber on since 4 March 2013. Since 28 April 2013, it belongs to the Minister of Sports, Youth and Equality of the Government Letta. Irregularities in Idems tax return for the years 2008 to 2011, there were the end of June to sharp attacks in the press and by political opponents on their person, after which she decided to submit her resignation.

Private

Josefa Idem grew up in Hamm and attended, among others, from 1974 to 1980 the school. Idem moved to the 1988 Olympic Games in Italy. There she trained with Guglielmo Guerrini, whom she married in 1990. She lives with her family near Ravenna and in 1992 was an Italian citizen.
