Josefa Martín Luengo

Josefa Martín Luengo ( born September 19, 1944 in Salamanca, Spain, † July 1, 2009 in Salamanca ) was a Spanish anarchist and representative of the progressive education.

Life and work

Luengo visited during her childhood, a Catholic boarding school in Alicante. Subsequently, she studied school education at the Pontifical University of Salamanca. After she completed her studies in 1972, she worked for a year at a Christian school in Zamora, here she was, however, dismissed. Two other years she worked in teaching. Here she was involved in an adult literacy campaign. Furthermore, they were also later reading and writing lessons for women. Later, she organized a conference in Merida for anti-authoritarian education. In October 1999, she attended a meeting for free education in Santa Maria ( Brazil).

In January 1978, she founded together with Concha and María Jesús Castaño Checa in Mérida a free school - the Escuela Libre Paideia. This reform school, which is dedicated to the libertarian pedagogy, persists to this day.
