Josep Piqué i Camps

Josep Piqué i Camps ( born February 21, 1955 in Vilanova i la Geltrú ) is a Spanish politician of the Spanish People's Party ( the Partido Popular, PP for short ). After their election victory in 1996, he was appointed Minister of Industry. From 2000 to 2002 he was Secretary of State. In the first half of 2002 he was in this capacity also President of the Council of the European Union.

In 2003 he became leader of the PP in the Catalan Parliament. In July 2007, he laid as a result of disagreements with the party leadership in Madrid his positions as Chairman of the Catalan PP and Group Chairman down. In November 2007, he assumed the Presidency of the low cost airline Vueling.
