Joseph Abaco

Joseph Marie Clement Dall'Abaco ( born March 27, 1710 in Brussels, † August 31 1805 in Arbizzano di Valpolicella, Verona province ) was an Italian cellist and composer.

Life

Born Joseph Marie Clement Dall'Abaco 1710 in Brussels, the son of the composer Evaristo Dall'Abaco. This was closely related to the Elector Joseph Clemens of Bavaria, the later Godfather Dall'Abacos son was. In his youth he took from Munich on a study trip to Venice and northern Italy. Once in Munich no vacancy for him, he was in 1729 appointed by the Elector Clemens August of Bavaria to Hofcellisten at the electoral court in Bonn. In 1738 he was appointed director of chamber music and the Electoral Council. In 1740 he traveled to London and several other English cities. 1749 a concert piece for five cellos was performed by him in Vienna. His time at the Bonn court ended abruptly in 1752 when his brother in law, the military commissar Peter Cosman, blew with the war chest. Dall'Abaco preferring then to move to Verona, the hometown of his father, where he spent the rest of his Lebends. On September 22, 1766 him the noble title of Baron was awarded by the Bavarian Elector.

Dall'Abaco was known in his time primarily as a cellist, he wrote about 40 cello sonatas, 11 Capricio for solo cello, which are partly preserved in autograph, trio sonatas and orchestral trios and a cantata for the feast by the Elector Clemens August. Decorated in the style galant sonatas, but still have many baroque elements, which he took over his father.
