Joseph-Antoine Bell

Joseph -Antoine Bell ( born October 8, 1954 in Mouandé, Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian former football goalkeeper. It was during his career as one of the best goalkeepers in Africa and has been voted Africa's goalkeeper of the century in 1998.

Club career

His career began in 1975 at Bell Union Douala, with whom he was in 1976 and 1978 Cameroonian champions. In 1979 he succeeded with the club winning the CAF Champions League. From 1981 to 1983 Bell went to Africa Sports National. He then moved to Egypt to Arab Contractors.

1985 signed him to the finest of French club Olympique Marseille. In the 1988/89 season he was at Sporting Toulon in the gate and went in 1989 to Girondins Bordeaux. AS Saint- Étienne was the last club for which he played and to which he moved in 1991. Here he finished his career in 1994. In France's top flight he brought it in these nine years to a total of 314 missions. A national title he could not win it; but he was twice runner-up ( 1987, Marseille and Bordeaux in 1990 ) and was also in two Cup finals (1986 and 1987 ), which he, however, both with Marseille - and each against Bordeaux - lost.

National

For the Cameroonian national team 50 times he stood in the gate, and took three times (1982, 1990, 1994 ) at a FIFA World Cup finals. 1984 and 1988 he was with African champions Cameroon, respectively, in 1992 he was in this competition in the semifinals, where he could be defeated only against Ivory Coast on penalties.
