Joseph B. Bennett

Joseph Bentley Bennett ( * April 21, 1859 in Greenup County, Kentucky, † November 7, 1923 in Greenup, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1905 and 1911 he represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Bennett attended the common schools and taught himself afterwards for some time as a teacher. After a subsequent law degree in 1878 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began in 1880 to work in this profession. In addition, he worked since 1885 also in the trade. Between 1894 and 1901, served as District Judge Bennett in Greenup County. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In the years 1900 and 1904 he was a member of the State Board of his party.

In the congressional elections of 1904 Bennett was in the ninth constituency of Kentucky in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat James Nicholas Kehoe took on 4 March 1905 that he had beaten in the election. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1911 three legislative periods. In the elections of 1910 he was defeated by Democrat William J. Fields. As a result, Joseph Bennett practiced as a lawyer again.
