Joseph C. Noyes

Joseph Cobham Noyes ( born September 22, 1798 in Portland, Massachusetts, † July 28, 1868 ) was an American politician. Between 1837 and 1839 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Noyes was born in 1798 in Portland, which at that time was still part of Massachusetts, and is since 1820 part of Maine. He attended the public schools of his home and moved in 1819 to East Port. There he was as a ship supplier (Ship Chandler ) and mail order company operates. In 1833, Noyes was elected to the House of Representatives from Maine.

Politically, Noyes joined the Whig party to. In 1836 he was a candidate in the seventh constituency of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on March 4, 1837 the successor of Leonard Jarvis of the Democratic Party. Since he was not nominated in the elections of the year 1838 by his party, Noyes was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1839.

After his time in the House of Representatives Noyes worked 1841-1843 as head of the customs authority in the district of Passamaquoddy. He then moved to Portland, where he acted with flour. In 1859 he became accountant of the Portland Co., a company that manufactured locomotives. Early as 1852 Noyes was one of the founders of the Portland Savings Bank. Until his death in 1868 he was in charge at that bank as Treasurer for the balance sheets.
