Joseph Decaisne

Decaisne Joseph ( born March 7, 1807 in Brussels, † February 8, 1882 in Paris) was a French botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Decne. ".

Life

In 1824 began on Muséum national d' Decaisne Histoire Naturelle in Paris to work as a gardener. As assistant to Adrien -Henri de Jussieu, he worked herbarium specimens of explorers and described on this basis, a number of new species. He was a founding member of the French Botanical Society. In 1835 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina.

Among his honors were, among others, the genus Decaisnea Hook.f. & Thomson ( Lardizabalaceae ) and the type Caralluma decaisneana ( Lem. ) NEBr. ( Asclepioideae ) named.
