Joseph F. Smith

Joseph Fielding Smith ( born November 13, 1838 in Missouri, † November 19, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah) was from 1901 to 1918, the sixth prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints ( " Mormons "). He is called to distinguish him from his son of the same Joseph F. Smith senior.

Smith was the first prophet, who had already been born into the church. He was the nephew of the first prophet and founder of the church, Joseph Smith. Joseph F. Smith 's father, Hyrum Smith, was an older brother of the founder. Hyrum had been murdered in 1844 along with Joseph by an angry lynch mob. After his mother's death in 1852, Joseph F. Smith dedicated his life to the Church. His main goal as a prophet was to bring the lesioned by polygamy call of the Church in public back in order to prevent the clandestine Next practice of polygamy, after breaking away many fundamentalists or were excommunicated. He also sought to refute allegations against the church because of their founding history. He built in New York, Missouri and Illinois several sites where people were able to learn about the Church. He extended the missionary work of the Church, and improved the training system within the Community.
