Joseph Gagnier

Joseph Gagnier ( born April 5, 1854 in Ancienne -Lorette, † April 19, 1919 in Montreal) was a Canadian clarinetist and music educator.

Gagnier came to Montreal in 1874, where he studied music theory with Ernest Lavigne and Joseph Geai and clarinet with Oscar Arnold and Jacques Vanpoucke. He then worked at various theaters of Montreal and was 1890-1919 clarinetist in the Sohmer Park. 1905 to 1906 he and his son Jean- Josaphat Gagnier also the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal bassoonist.

Gagnier had 27 children, he trained all musical. The best known were Jean- Josaphat, Guillaume, René Armand, Ernest, Lucien and Réal Gagnier. In the next generation Roland, Claire, Gérald and Ève Gagnier were well-known musicians.
