Joseph Gelineau

Joseph Gelineau SJ ( born October 31, 1920 in Champ- sur -Layon, Maine -et -Loire; † August 8, 2008 in Sallanches, Haute -Savoie ) was a French Jesuit and as a composer an important representative of the French hymn.

Life

In 1941 he entered the Jesuit Order. He studied theology in Lyon - Fourvière, composition and organ at the "Ecole Cesar Franck " in Paris. He received his doctorate in theology with a thesis on the forms of psalmody in the Syrian churches of the 4th and 5th century.

Joseph Gelineau, composed several songs for the ecumenical Taizé Community, as Ubi caritas Deus ibi est, De tout la paix du coeur, Il n'est pas de plus grand amour (II ), Une soif emplit notre âme, Dieu ne peut que donner son amour, Regnum tuum Veniat, Alleluia 14 15 Alleluia, Amen and Ordinary chants for the celebration of the Eucharist as Kyrie - Christe eleison, Gloria, credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei.
