Joseph Grech

Joseph Angelo Grech (born 10 December 1948 in Hal Balzan, Malta, † December 27, 2010 in Melbourne, Australia) was Bishop of Sandhurst.

Life

Joseph Angelo Grech studied theology and philosophy at the diocesan seminary in Balzan in Malta and at Corpus Christi College, Glen Waverley and Clayton. He received by the Auxiliary Bishop of Malta, Joseph Mercieca, on 30 November 1974, the ordination. He was active in pastoral work in Melbourne and in Northcote, Altona North, Maidstone and Moonee Ponds, as well as a parish pastor in Brunswick East. After doctoral studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he was chaplain of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement ( Catholic Charismatic Renewal ). At Corpus Christi College of the diocese he was spiritual.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 27 November 1998 as Titular Bishop of Belesasa and appointed him as Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne. The Archbishop of Melbourne, George Pell gave him on 10 February 1999 in Patrick's Cathedral, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Thomas Francis Little, retired Archbishop of Melbourne, and Joseph Peter O'Connell, Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne.

On 8 March 2001 he was appointed Bishop of Sandhurst and introduced into office in the Sacred Heart Cathedral on 27 April 2001. He was also responsible for youth and young adults and for migrants and refugees in the Australian Bishops' Conference.
