Joseph H. Anderson

Joseph Halstead Anderson ( born August 25, 1800 Harrison, New York, † June 23, 1870 in White Plains, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1843 and 1847 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Halstead Anderson was born in the beginning of the 19th century in the Town of Harrison in White Plains and grew up there. During this time he attended community schools. He then worked in agriculture. He sat in the years 1833 and 1834 in the New York State Assembly. Between 1835 and 1838 he was sheriff in Westchester County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1842 for the 28th Congress Anderson was in the seventh election district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Van Buren on March 4, 1843. He was re-elected once. Since he gave up for reelection in 1846, he retired after March 3, 1847 from the Congress. As a Congressman he had presided over the Committee on Agriculture ( 29th Congress ).

After his conference time he was again engaged in farming. He died on June 23, 1870 in White Plains and was then buried in a private cemetery in " Anderson Hill " at White Plains.
