Joseph H. August
Joseph H. August ( born April 26, 1890 in Idaho Springs, Colorado, † September 25, 1947 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American cinematographer.
Life
Joseph H. August, after a relatively short time as a camera assistant in 1912 director of photography and photographed predominantly Western. From 1924 he was often working for director John Ford. August made a name for itself as a specialist for black and white films and developed a great versatility. In the last years of his career already impaired health, he died during the filming of Jenny, who had to be completed by another cameraman. He was involved in more than 150 film productions.
1940 and 1949, he was each best for the Oscar in the category Camera - nominated black and white.
