Joseph Hansen (dancer)

Joseph Hansen ( born March 8, 1842 in Brussels, † July 27, 1907 in Paris) was a Belgian dancer and choreographer.

At the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, he worked as a ballet director (1865-1871) and choreographer ( 1871-1875 ). In the last capacity he created the first choreography of Coppélia on November 29, 1871.

From 1879-1882 he was ballet master at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, where he gave the Swan (1880 ) and choreographed by Marius Petipa, the Russian premiere of Coppélia (1882). Then he went to the theater Alhambra in London (1884-1887) and finally at the Opéra Garnier in Paris ( 1887-1907 ).
