Joseph Johann Adam, Prince of Liechtenstein

Joseph I. Johann Adam ( born May 27, 1690 in Vienna, † December 17, 1732 in Feldberg ) was the sixth Prince of Liechtenstein from 1721 to 1732.

Life

Joseph was the only surviving son of Prince Anton Florian of Liechtenstein. He served at a young age in the imperial army and fought as with the War of Spanish Succession. In 1712 he was during the coronation of Charles VI. appointed its treasurer. A year later he was already elevated to the principal commissioner at the Moravian Diet.

Due to the origin and the military and political function was recorded at his accession to the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1721 Josef Johann Adam von Liechtenstein. From 1723 he served as a privy councilor, and opened so 1729/30 as imperial principal commissioner the Princes in Silesia.

Since Prince Joseph was but on economic success from, this is kept generally away from the court and from court service, because there the life and represent was quite expensive. For he was a good and successful administrator of his goods. He called this the very capable Charles Joseph of Gillern as directing Councilor. As peaceful ruler he even succeeded, his estranged family, who fought for the heritage of Prince Johann Adam von Liechtenstein, to calm and soothe. This was also urgently needed, because after all was his rule in serious danger if he should leave the Site. His right to the throne of Liechtenstein would thus become void.

His grave is located in the crypt of the House of Liechtenstein in Vranov u Brna ( Moravia ).

Family

Josef Johann Adam was married four times and widowed three times:

  • Gabriele von Liechtenstein (1692-1713), daughter of the 3rd Prince Johann Adam Andreas ( 1657-1712 )
  • Countess Maria Anna von Thun- Hohenstein (1698-1716)
  • Countess Maria Anna von Oettingen- Spielberg (1693-1729)
  • Countess Maria Anna of Kottulinsky (1707-1788)

His descendants were:

  • Karl Anton (1713-1715)
  • Josef Anton (1720-1723)
  • Marie Therese (1721-1753) ∞ Joseph I. Adam, 4th Prince of Schwarzenberg ( 1712-1782 ), son of Adam Franz Karl of Schwarzenberg ( 1680-1732 )
  • Johann Nepomuk Karl (1724-1748), 7th Prince of Liechtenstein in 1732 ∞ Countess Maria Josefa von Harrach ( 1727-1788 ), daughter of Count Friedrich von Harrach ( 1696-1749 )
