Joseph Kutter

Joseph Kutter ( born December 12, 1894 in Luxembourg, † January 2, 1941 ) was a Luxembourg painter.

Life

Cutter grew up in the city of Luxembourg, where his father worked as a photographer. After the trade school in Luxembourg, he attended from 1911 to 1914 arts and crafts schools in Strasbourg and Munich. In 1915, he worked for two months with a glass painter in Cologne. In 1917-18 he was for a few months at the Art Academy in Munich.

Kutter remained until 1924 in Munich, where he married in 1919. His painting was influenced during this time by the works of Cézanne and the German Expressionists. 1924 cutter returned back to Luxembourg, where he now lived. In the same year he participated in the " Salon du Cercle Artistique " ( Exhibition of the Art Association ), but found little recognition. 1926 appeared the first positive reviews in Belgium.

In 1927, Cutter with other artists, the Luxembourg secession, which held a first exhibition in the same year. In 1930 he participated in the Paris "Salon d' Autommne " ( Autumn Exhibition ) part. In France and Belgium was celebrated cutter while he was rejected in Luxembourg. Thus he showed his paintings from 1930 in his home country no longer public.

From 1933 launches in Germany was ranked among the degenerate artists. His paintings, however, were still successfully shown in Paris, Brussels and Antwerp. 1936-37 he painted two large pictures, " Luxembourg" and " Clervaux " for the Luxembourg Pavilion at the " Exposition Internationale " ( International Exhibition ) in Paris.

During this time ill boats from a mysterious disease that has never been clearly diagnosed. The last years of his life he suffered from severe pain. On January 2, 1941, he died of a stroke.
