Joseph Lelyveld

Joseph Lelyveld ( born April 5, 1937 in Cincinnati ) is an American writer and journalist, and was from 1994 to 2001 editor of the New York Times.

His father was the leader of American Reform Judaism, Arthur Lelyveld. Lelyveld graduated from Harvard College in 1958 and spent two years studying journalism at the Columbia School of Journalism afterwards. Lelyveld some 40 years worked as a journalist for the New York Times. He has authored several books. In 1971 he was awarded the George Polk Award, 1986 Pulitzer Prize and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Move Your Shadow.
