Joseph Mayseder

Josef Mayseder ( born October 27, 1789 in Vienna, † November 21, 1863 Vienna ) was an Austrian violinist and composer.

Life

Josef Mayseder already showed great musical talent as a child and was a student of Joseph Searching (1797 ), Paul Wranitzky (1798 ) and Ignaz Schuppanzigh. At age eleven, he performed at one of the famous Augarten concerts to the public. He received lessons in composition from Emanuel Aloys Förster.

From 1810, he was concertmaster of the Royal Opera, 1816 violin soloist at the Imperial Chapel, and in 1836 its conductor. In 1835 he was appointed imperial chamber virtuoso. He was also a major quartet player, as well as teacher and composer for his instrument. As a teacher, he is considered the founder of the so-called Viennese violinist school. Even Niccolò Paganini spoke with great respect about him.

From 1830, he received numerous awards and honorary memberships. In 1839 he was elected together with Pierre Rode and Pierre Baillot at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1862 he was still honored by the award of the Knight 's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order. He was also an honorary citizen of Vienna and an honorary member of the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna. Most of his compositions were written about 70 for your own presentation. He was one of 50 composers who submitted a variation on a waltz by Anton Diabelli for Part II of the collection Patriotic Association of Artists (Published 1824).

He is buried in a grave of honor in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group 0, number 1, number 36). In 1876 in Vienna Inner City (1st district) was named the Maysedergasse after him.
