Joseph Nanven Garba

Joseph Nanven Garba ( born July 17, 1943 in Langtang, † June 1, 2002 in Abuja ) was a Nigerian politician.

Since the establishment of the Nigerian Army in 1962, he was a soldier. During the military rule from 1975 to 1978 he was member of the Supreme Military Council and also Foreign Minister of Nigeria. In this capacity, he participated in several African conferences. 1978 Garba was a month long President of the UN Security Council.

After the handover of power to civilian rule in 1978, he became commander of the Military Academy. In 1980 he began studying in India and Harvard, where he earned the Master title.

In 1984 he took over the post of UN ambassador of his country, he was elected President of the 44th UN General Assembly 1989 ( term of office until 1990).

The author of several books was married and had children.
