Joseph Oller

Joseph Oller, Josep Oller i Roca in Catalan, (* 1839 in Terrassa, Spain, † 1922 in Paris) was a Catalan- French impresario and is known as the inventor of the totalizer.

In 1842 his family moved to Paris. For the study, he went back to Spain at the University of Bilbao. There, cock fighting were popular.

After 1850, he acquired the meadows along the Seine (the present Maisons -Laffitte ) by Jacques Laffitte and designed it to horse races. In 1878 she was converted into a hippodrome. To 1865, the pari-mutuel system was at the horse races in France introduced as the inventor a Parisian perfume dealer named Pierre Oller is mentioned in many sources, is said to have proposed this bet type a friendly bookmaker, on the other hand just Joseph Oller.

In 1888 he established the Music Hall Olympia in Paris. 1888/89, he and Charles Zidler the Moulin Rouge.

At the age of about 83 years Joseph Oller died in Paris and was in the Père Lachaise his final resting place.
