Joseph Pairin Kitingan

Yang Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Berhomat Joseph Pairin Kitingan SPDK, PMN ( born August 17, 1940 in Papar ) is a Malaysian politician and was the 7th Prime Minister of the State of Sabah. He followed in April 1985 by Harris Salleh and remained until March 1994 at the office. Since March 2004 he has been Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Development in Sabah. Kitingan is the founder and chairman of the party Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS). [Note 1]

Life

Pairin was born in 1940 in Papar. He went to Kota Kinabalu for La Salle High School, a school for boys. He won a project financed from the Colombo Plan scholarship and studied law at the University of Adelaide. After graduating, he returned to Sabah and worked as a lawyer in the Justice Department of Sabah, later as a prosecutor. He then worked as an attorney in a local law firm.

Joseph Pairin Kitingan is a Catholic and with Genevieve Lee Chau Ha, a retired teacher, married. Your two sons, Alexander and Daniel, are trained lawyers.

His brother Jeffrey Kitingan is also Gapari politician and former vice - president of the party Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR ). Previously, he was a member of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS ), Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah ( PBRS ), Parti Angkatan Keadilan Rakyat ( AKAR Bersatu ), the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation ( UPKO ), and finally - after his accession to the United Malays National Organisation ( UMNO ) had denied - the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR ).

Political career

Joseph Pairin began his active in politics in the year 1975. 1976 he moved under the BERJAYA government as a candidate of the constituency Tambunan in the Legislative Assembly of Sabah one. Harris Salleh, Prime Minister from 1976 to 1985, appointed him to the cabinet ministers. Tambunan, since then, the stronghold of Kitingans electorate.

With time, was felt by Joseph Pairin disappointment with the leadership of BERJAYA because he felt that the party had moved away from their original goals. As a result of its clear positioning in the Kaamatan debater he was forced to resign from his ministerial post. Mid-1982 came Pairin from the party, but remained independent Member of Parliament for the constituency of Tambunan.

In December 1984, he entered as an independent candidate in his constituency Tambunan against the ruling party in order to defend his position. In March 1985, Joseph Pairin Kitingan Parti Bersatu Sabah Party (PBS ), also called United Sabah Party. Against all odds, he managed to register the PBS at the last minute as a political party and thus created the conditions to compete against the incumbent government in the elections in April 1985.

To win the election, to BERJAYA had allied with the party United Sabah National Organization ( USNO ), but this coalition broke up as a result of unrest among the indigenous tribes. This PBS got the majority of votes and Kitingan was sworn in as the seventh Prime Minister of Sabah. He stayed from April 1985 to March 1994 in office and led his party in the four subsequent elections in 1985, 1986, 1990 and 1994 to victory.

Shortly after the election victory of 1994 came the debacle after the winner of the election was announced, ran almost all members of the Barisan Nasional PBS over the opponent. Kitingan was denied the swearing in as prime minister and instead doing Sakaran Dandai was sworn in by the UMNO as the eighth Prime Minister of Sabah.

Kadazan - Dusun Cultural Association

Pairin held the office of Huguan Sioux City, the supreme leader of the Kadazan - Dusun. He is also the President of the Kadazan - Dusun Cultural Association ( KDCA ).

Awards and honors

As part of the celebration of the 48th birthday of the Yang di - Pertuan Agong Kitingan was on 5 June 2010 with the Order of Panglima Mangku Negara (PMN ) excellent. The ceremony includes the right to use the title Tan Sri, and prefix the name.
